Two New Amphitheatre Concerts Announced: Lyle Lovett with John Hiatt (March 23, 2012) and Martina McBride (April 13, 2012)

Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt are bringing their co-headlining tour to the St. Augustine Amphitheatre on Friday, March 23, 2012.

Lyle Lovett is an American singer-songwriter and actor. Since 1980, he has recorded thirteen albums and released 21 singles to date, including his highest entry, the number 10 chart hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, “Cowboy Man”. Lovett has won four Grammy Awards, including Best Male Country Vocal Performance and Best Country Album.

John Hiatt is an American rock guitarist, pianist, singer, and songwriter. He has been nominated for eleven Grammy Awards. Hiatt began his solo career in 1974, and over the next decade he ran through a number of different styles from rock & roll to new wave pop before he finally settled on a rootsy fusion of rock & roll, country, blues, and folk. Following his success, Hiatt became a reliable hit songwriter for other artists, and he developed a strong cult following.

Country superstar, Martina McBride, is a multi-platinum performing artist who has sold over 18 million albums worldwide. McBride started out selling merchandise on Garth Brooks’ 1990 tour, and impressed Brooks enough that he offered her a slot as his opening act. McBride has had several number one country hits (A Broken Wing, Wrong Again, I Love You, Blessed), and two crossover adult contemporary hits (Valentine and I Love You). Her most recent album, “Eleven” was released on October 11, 2011.

In addition to album success, Martina has won the Country Music Association’s “Female Vocalist of the Year” award four times (tied with Reba McEntire for the most wins) and the Academy of Country Music’s “Top Female Vocalist” award three times.

Friends of St. Augustine Amphitheatre (FOSAA) Presents Check for Arts in Education Fund

Dottie Acosta, President of Friends of St. Augustine Amphitheatre presents a check to Tommy Bledsoe, St. Johns County Public School Arts and Foreign Language Program Specialist

Friends of the St. Augustine Amphitheatre (FOSAA), a  non-profit, tax exempt organization, recently presented a check to Tom Bledsoe, payable to the St. Johns County Education Foundation Arts in Education Fund.  The donation will be used to enable students to gain exposure to live arts performances. The check represents half the net proceeds from ticket sales from the recent Bandfest held at the Amphitheatre.

During the past year FOSAA  awarded grants to Osceola Elementary, R.B. Hunt Elementary, Florida School for the Deaf and Blind and the Homeless Coalition, to enable them to bring children to Winter Wonderland. For the second year FOSAA also distributed free tickets for ice skating to Title 1 elementary schools and organizations serving at-risk children. Additionally, grants were awarded to EPIC Community Services for their “Taste of St. Augustine” event, and to the Keepers of the Coast for their first annual “Back2School Beach Fest”. These grants helped subsidize expenses related to the use of the Amphitheatre.

All of these activities help to fulfill FOSAA’s mission to make the Amphitheatre more accessible to the community. This is accomplished by  subsidizing schools and non-profit organizations who wish to bring groups to  the Amphitheater, or utilize the Amphitheater for their own events. Revenue for grants comes from FOSAA  individual and corporate memberships, fund raising activities and donations. During the coming year the Board is planning to raise additional funds for grants by auctioning off signed guitars and memorabilia from past Amphitheatre performers.

Individuals and businesses who are interested in adding their name to FOSAA’s growing membership base will be aiding a worthy cause. Individual  members receive advance notice of presales for most concerts and the opportunity to purchase tickets prior to public sale. They can also park for free in the satellite lot at every concert it is utilized. There are additional benefits for Corporate Sponsors. More information about FOSAA, membership, and grants can be found at  other links on this website.
